What did you do to your X1/9 today ?

one nut will spin, need a 2nd to lock it in place unless you know another trick?

also curious what you replaced the rod sping with.
Now I see what you did with those nuts. Look for a "jam nut" instead; they are thin and intended to lock a regular nut in place.

The spring I used was a generic one from a local hardware store. They have drawers of them in a wide array of sizes, configurations, stiffnesses, etc. Take some basic measurements with you and look for one that feels right. This is only a simple return spring and the exact specs are not critical (even works fine without one).

Last night was one of the twice-a-week 'car nights' with Dad. It was also his 90th birthday.
He was upside-down with his head in the footwell working with me to get the clips on the heater box, after we lubricated the squealy bearings in the fan motor.
It was a good night.
Excellent that you and your dad are still able to share those moments together. Enjoy it. I'm currently taking care of my 98 y.o. mom. :)

But at least you are taking care of your 98 yo mom. I wish I had had another 37 years with my dad… I know its difficult though and you are a good person for doing it.

90 and he is upside down in the footwell, amazing. I can only hope I can do the same at 90.

Removed the only really rusty part of the Reclamation '78 today. Pictured replacement panel came from MWB. It wasn't exactly "cleanly" cut from its doner car, but I have managed to since get it close. Getting it and the replacement floor cover media blasted before I dive into installation. Pictured is just a test fit.

Why these are a problem…finally starting to get the Lido back together and didnt like the way the rebuilt head sat on the block. Tapped the head down with a block of wood but it wouldn’t sit properly so pulled it back off. I found this. Maybe bit of a rookie moment as I’d fitted them to the head first and in retrospect they should go in the block first, however, they don’t look like the originals and may have been the caused the head gasket blowing due to getting trapped in the head in the first place….glad I pulled the head before torquing down. New ones on the way from Eurosport-uk

Did you have the head shaved? If so, you need to shave the dowels the same amount or the head won't seat completely.
