Dr Jeff,Mike, also consider having your existing one rebuilt. See if there are any automotive electrical rebuilding specialist shops in your area. It is less expensive and often better quality than a new one. And if you wanted (or needed) to, they can make it have a higher output (amps) to help supply any added electrical loads (cooling fans, etc).
Rodger,It just so happens that I am parting out an ‘86. I have no idea if the alternator works or not or how soon I can get to it but let me know if you are interested.
