Howdy,

Just had my front struts replaced on a X1/9 '81 and was told by the mechanic that he coulddn't/didn't need to perform a wheel alignment because there was no room to adjust the Camber, Caster and Toe-in. Aparently the things just sloted in. Is this possible? Am I going to find uneven tread wear in a few 100km?

The car drives fine and does not pull to one side, however the steering centre is no longer "centre", it's slightly off. Is this due to the rear
wheels requiring alignment? Is my thrust angle out?

Thank-you.

[FONT=Trebuchet MS, Verdana, Tahoma, Arial]<!-- google_ad_section_start -->Carlo,

First, did he check the measurements of the toe, caster, and camber? The toe is easily adjusted front and rear. I don't know how caster would be addressed, but camber can be addressed by slotting the holes for the strut bolts. I did this on my '75 as I had way too much camber there and it was very easy.

I would go and have the alignment checked and get the measurements. Around here, Les Schwab will do an alignment check for free.

Then bring the measurements on back here and we can go from there.

As far as the steering wheel not centering, once the alignment is adjusted properly, you can have them center the steering wheel by adjusting the front tie rods until it's centered.

Good luck, let us know how it goes.

[FONT=Trebuchet MS, Verdana, Tahoma, Arial]<!-- google_ad_section_start -->.. In Ohio was a race shop. Nobody else could figure it out or would touch it. They did all the exotics in town and only charged a little more. Till this day I only go to racing and performance shops for alignments. Always done right the first time.
