I'm very glad I did--it runs terrible--I mean, I'm glad I didn't wait to drive it to the local Solo ll coming soon.
I have seen that some of you are getting in the 9's on an eighth-mile strip----I got 13's. The staging crew had to push me to get it up to the line---embarassed,,,no,o,o,o not much. Revved it to 6k and dumped the clutch; it actually fell on it's face put-putted a couple of times before I could get the clutch back in and tried to rev it back up---I coasted a good long time, the thing finally got going, but it took so long that I didn't get a time slip for that run. A couple more runs each having it's own nightmares, but the times were all consistant--13's. On my first race I did beat a Mustang,,,only because he went faster than his posted time. On the last race I got beat by a GIRL (sorry Holly)---but that was because I red lighted. I had been getting .537 reaction time and was trying to get that down, but went a little bit to far. It was a good day though and I had a lot of fun, especially knowing that I can only get better.
Now then,,about this carb, ya it's a 79 and its teeny but somethings wrong with it. I sometimes have to pump the pedal to get it to start revving, and then at 3k if I just hold the pedal, it dies (really) the rpms drop until I can't stand it any longer and start pumping the pedal again --now between 4k and 6k everything is great, lots of power. Have I said enough? Tues is another race day here and I would REALLY like to be able to get into the 11's----any Ideas?????<!-- google_ad_section_end -->

The vacumn actuator that opens the secondary throttle seems to be okay(is the shaft coming ddown from the vacuumn housing supposed to be able to slide up and down in the long sleve into which it goes?) Can't get the idle down below 1500 rpm so I don't know how to set the timing--can't see any marks with the timing light on???
Other stuff--every one of my drive axle bolts was loose (scary huh) I'm real sure that when I rebuilt the trans I had them tight. ??
still having trouble with the altenator,,the bottom bolt lost it's nut(next time lock tite)but it still won't charge the battery so that I am just running off the battery and by the end of the day don't have much left.

Hmm on second thought, it rains here in Indy and I've always hated walking next to a bald guy in the rain--splatters everywhere and makes that weird sound.
I did find that the po had put in a bare wired capacitor (condenser?) on the firewall and with the aluminum faced insulation, it was shorting out whenever it jiggled into contact. I taped it and the car ran better, then I removed it and the car runs good. Ahhh the simplisities of life.
Also ran into a couple of guys, one has a couple of '75 carbs to give me, the other told me where 3 x's are in a junk yard--rather a profitable day,,eh!<!-- google_ad_section_end -->

I've only got one more week to get this even close to unembarassing. There's only one other x racing and I know he would not like to have all those mr2s laughing at an x,,,course neither would I.
I'm pretty sure that 98% of my problem is in the carb. When I let off now it backfires through the muffler, which would normally be retarded timing, but I think it may be more of a congested cat converter filling up on gas. The primary just seems so doggy,,cause when the secondary kicks in its great---to 6k then it just flattens out and stays there,,

Hmm on second thought, it rains here in Indy and I've always hated walking next to a bald guy in the rain--splatters everywhere and makes that weird sound.
I did find that the po had put in a bare wired capacitor (condenser?) on the firewall and with the aluminum faced insulation, it was shorting out whenever it jiggled into contact. I taped it and the car ran better, then I removed it and the car runs good. Ahhh the simplisities of life.
Also ran into a couple of guys, one has a couple of '75 carbs to give me, the other told me where 3 x's are in a junk yard--rather a profitable day,,eh!<!-- google_ad_section_end -->

I've only got one more week to get this even close to unembarassing. There's only one other x racing and I know he would not like to have all those mr2s laughing at an x,,,course neither would I.
I'm pretty sure that 98% of my problem is in the carb. When I let off now it backfires through the muffler, which would normally be retarded timing, but I think it may be more of a congested cat converter filling up on gas. The primary just seems so doggy,,cause when the secondary kicks in its great---to 6k then it just flattens out and stays there,,
