...the consumate luddite (moi), who has never owned a digicam,
now has one courtesy of BrettBranch.
He got tired of reading my repeated apologies for not having pics,
so turned me onto a camera from his box of old toys.
And a card reader!
Stumbling through the processes, got as far as unloading pics to snapfish.
So here is link to 128 pics. Mostly showing current dash resto project,
and with a few random driveway shots (of dirty drivers...)
Dash resto was interesting. Perfect skin but several inches of both ends and the bottom metal framework were completely disintegrated. Those areas carefully cut away with cutoff wheel, then the rust-impregnated foam carved back, then coated foam with fiberglass mat/resin, then determined where ductwork screw holes needed after carving away excess mat to allow dash vents to sit flush with outer skin, then added a few more layers of mat/resin for the mounting points of ducts & lower tray/heater controls. Took many hours of careful trimming, fitting, & 'glas work. Suspect this dash is unique to Oregon climate with uncracked skin (due to no sun), and extreme rust (due to leaky windshield and dashfoam holding moisture against metal for months...years!
One pic shows how badly metal was destroyed. Few scraps of metal in foreground, with the rest being foam & rust scale. Fortunately the damage was localized, in spite of it being all-consuming.
Only a link to pics at this time, since I put these on snapfish, due to new photobucket being a PIA.
