Fun at the Track

X1/9
Portland International Raceway 2000                                                                 Pictures by Eric Armstrong

Mike Mittlestead got himself and me spots in a trackday, organized by the local Shelby Club.
This was my first time on track at speed and I absolutely loved it.

Confident on the outside, yet full of anticption with right foot twitching.

Time to go out there for the first time.

Initially, I follow Mike's surefooted lead around the track.

Then I go off on my own and sort of stay close to the apex markers.

Better that time.

After qualifying, Mike and I are in 2nd and 3rd place, just behind some ugly red car.
What is this anyway, a really early NSX?

That's about as fast as the tires allowed.

Almost up on two wheels but not leaning too much due to Faza Stage 2 springs.

To me, the hardest spot on the course - the chicane.
How I picked my line at the spot where I am now determined if I would be way slow
in 2nd gear where Mike is right now, or get sideways to the left of the picture.

Interesting competition too.

And the winner is...

Chillin' in the pits between runs.
