I think you would be better off buying new rings and pistons, even if it means importing them from the states or the UK, than you would be in swapping them from one engine to another. It may work, but seems like asking for trouble.

The 128 is a 1300 and the regatta is a 1500, Ive been told by a Fiat mechanic that the pistons and rings are a different size, so the decision is made for me I suppose. Ill strip down both engines and compare the innards using a vernier and see what goes. This could be fun and then again it could develop horns and a tail, we"ll see.

(its a 78 model with a 1500 motor. Ive been told that the diff center can be used to 'up' the final drive ratio a bit but does the starter fit? and can I use some of the engine internals in my 1500? For example the pistons and rings in mine are well worn and I was hoping that I could gut the 128 motor for the new rings and bearings. I think you would be better off buying new rings and pistons, even if it means importing them from the states or the UK, than you would be in swapping them from one engine to another. It may work, but seems like asking for trouble.

The 128 is a 1300 and the regatta is a 1500, Ive been told by a Fiat mechanic that the pistons and rings are a different size, so the decision is made for me I suppose. Ill strip down both engines and compare the innards using a vernier and see what goes. This could be fun and then again it could develop horns and a tail, we"ll see.

Yes I will do up the 1500 at my lesiure.
