My love to become is an 75 1300 cc and is still being used on a daily basis. The bodywork needs a lot of attention but no real serious mess. Only more serious thing found was bad shifting into 3rd gear. If done very smoothly: no problem, little less subtility and you hear (probably) its synchronisation rings. It's a four-gear model.
I can probabely buy an extra 5 gear gearbox with it. Will this fit in case of breakdown of the presently installed gearbox?
Any other crucial things I'd have to check for?

Just about everything can still be found for reasonable prices... but depending on WHICH island you live on, shipping could easily exceed the cost of the piece.
This would be the place to ASK for what parts you need!
As far as the 4 versus 5 speed, I believe you either have to notch or replace the left rear lower control arm and there are a few other things that I am not aware of.
You need to decide what ya wanna do, Restore, Modify, or "Restify" and then take that course. BTW, the dollars involved go down in the same order!

Thanks for the tip on Steve H, I'll try to contact him. Where as your warning for rust is concerned I think the very good climate (4-6 weeks a year tropical rains, the rest of the year: dry) and the first owner of (who pampered it) make it happen that rust is very litle. Bottom: 98% (near battery-compartment a little), the other parts: superficial. Old repair-spots need te be redone. They poured in kilos of body-filler in stead of welding a plate in.
At present I just hope the guy will sell to me for the price I suggested. The thing is a beauty and I'm totally hooked now I've read this site. There sure are a lot of X1/9 enthousiasts out there! I was little with-holding thinking: where are parts, where will be the answers. Looks like I've found the spot to ask them.

I certainly don't know how much expendable income you have but like I said before... if you're willing do do the work, the parts are available at reasonable prices with a lot of support and assistance... from afar!
Again... I think shipping would be your greatest cost.
Why not check locally on what a 2' x 2' x 2' box weighing 100 pounds would cost to ship from LA California or New York, New York to Curacao? It costs about 50 cents a pound or 50 US dollars here, coast to coast.
Lastly, make sure this is not your SOLE MEANS of transportation. They can be dependable... but parts could take a while to get there.

My X to be (wouldn't want to repeat this to my girlfriend) will be ready for the obliged governemental tests on safety (something like the MOT story from England). Ours is just much more fun. If you know the right people the car doesn't have to leave your garage to get an OK. It is just al little more expensive. But than the downside of this story is that there are loads of people who drive uninsured, pay now road-tax and never ever bothered about any governemental safety-tests. We have cars driving around which are catagorized e.g. as baka-pinta (cow-painted car) or plagatox (smoking so abundantly that remind you of the musquito-repellent smoke-sticks). Ofcours there is the standard proletarian comodity-crap like lexus, BMW and Trans-Ams. But who needs that on an island where max-speed (officiale) is in general 40-60 km/hour and at a (very) few point 80 km/hour.
Anyway, plans are being made. First bodyworks, than engine and suspension en finally interior. But hell, first drive and enjoy. If the purchase is made you'll be digitall witnesses.

Just about everything can still be found for reasonable prices... but depending on WHICH island you live on, shipping could easily exceed the cost of the piece.
This would be the place to ASK for what parts you need!
As far as the 4 versus 5 speed, I believe you either have to notch or replace the left rear lower control arm and there are a few other things that I am not aware of.
You need to decide what ya wanna do, Restore, Modify, or "Restify" and then take that course. BTW, the dollars involved go down in the same order!

Thanks for the tip on Steve H, I'll try to contact him. Where as your warning for rust is concerned I think the very good climate (4-6 weeks a year tropical rains, the rest of the year: dry) and the first owner of (who pampered it) make it happen that rust is very litle. Bottom: 98% (near battery-compartment a little), the other parts: superficial. Old repair-spots need te be redone. They poured in kilos of body-filler in stead of welding a plate in.
At present I just hope the guy will sell to me for the price I suggested. The thing is a beauty and I'm totally hooked now I've read this site. There sure are a lot of X1/9 enthousiasts out there! I was little with-holding thinking: where are parts, where will be the answers. Looks like I've found the spot to ask them.

I certainly don't know how much expendable income you have but like I said before... if you're willing do do the work, the parts are available at reasonable prices with a lot of support and assistance... from afar!
Again... I think shipping would be your greatest cost.
Why not check locally on what a 2' x 2' x 2' box weighing 100 pounds would cost to ship from LA California or New York, New York to Curacao? It costs about 50 cents a pound or 50 US dollars here, coast to coast.
Lastly, make sure this is not your SOLE MEANS of transportation. They can be dependable... but parts could take a while to get there.

My X to be (wouldn't want to repeat this to my girlfriend) will be ready for the obliged governemental tests on safety (something like the MOT story from England). Ours is just much more fun. If you know the right people the car doesn't have to leave your garage to get an OK. It is just al little more expensive. But than the downside of this story is that there are loads of people who drive uninsured, pay now road-tax and never ever bothered about any governemental safety-tests. We have cars driving around which are catagorized e.g. as baka-pinta (cow-painted car) or plagatox (smoking so abundantly that remind you of the musquito-repellent smoke-sticks). Ofcours there is the standard proletarian comodity-crap like lexus, BMW and Trans-Ams. But who needs that on an island where max-speed (officiale) is in general 40-60 km/hour and at a (very) few point 80 km/hour.
Anyway, plans are being made. First bodyworks, than engine and suspension en finally interior. But hell, first drive and enjoy. If the purchase is made you'll be digitall witnesses.
