Anybody ever heard of this? I believe I have the wrong siz (too short) on my '86 as the inboard driver side CVjoint scrapes the transmission crossmember when you take off from a stop - any other ideas?

I have a 77X and was sold a 6" bone but later found out (Vick) that mine should be 4 1/4" long. Be careful changing lengths as it raises hell with the shift tube lollypop alignment. Longer rotates the engine forward and short one vice versa. You can take the one you have off (won't hurt a thing) and move the engine back and forth to see what's happening underneath. 1. I would suspect that you have a broken trans or right hand engine mount and would inspect those as JP indicated.

2. An adjustable dogbone can be made from a heavy shackle of aluminum or steel found at the hardware store. In racing apps (375 HP Mopars)we used them for keeping the engine EXACLTY where we wanted it to eliminate shift bind. We never isolated them with rubber either... and I never found the vibration to be excessive. Some will, though.

Chris Obert has the correct dogbone for injected cars. I think the cost is around $25.00

Mike Hokinson made up a replacement mount using heim (sp?) joints for the ends. The center piece is made out of steel tubing threaded on the ends for the joints to screw into. You would obviously need spacers since the joints are much narrower than the stock mount.

[FONT=Trebuchet MS, Verdana, Tahoma, Arial]<!-- google_ad_section_start -->I used a solid dogbone last summer. Vibration were tolerable but on a long trip all the car bolts started to come loose. I lost a halfshaft on the highway, and the tranny/engine mount became loose.

I will go back to something less radical.

An adjustable dog bone could also be made using a stock one with one end cut and the shaft threaded to use a heim joint. So you would have a stiffer dog bone, adjustable, but still one end with rubber to soften a little the vibration.
