i pulled my "rebuilt" alternator this past weekend.
the arcing and sparking was due to a diode that had popped out. it was still rattling inside
(suprised it didn't jam the thing up)
and the wire was just flapping around, arcing to
the case...
no wonder the performance was flaky...
it's bad enough that PEP-BOYS gave me the wrong
alternator for my car, but the unit was also
a product of shoddy workmanship....
so i'm still looking for an alternator.
my local source (AW imports), and a couple mail-order sources already let me down.
now i'm thinking junk-yard, and rebuild if req'd...
or perhaps a retrofit of a more common unit.<!-- google_ad_section_end -->
