contradiction of the Tea Party ethos-'big government is bad unless it benefits me'. This quote in response to Perry calling Social Security a Ponzi scheme and questioning its constitutionality.

“That’s wrong for any candidate to make senior citizens believe that they should be nervous about something they have come to count on. We need not do that, but I think at the same time we also outline our positive solutions,” Bachmann said.

Of course any favored group could make the same claim on government programs that they count on ( military contractors for instance). What her 'positive'solutions' for the present retiree and soon-to-be-retiree population could possibly amount to exceeds my comprehension. And the dependence of seniors on SS and Medicare doesn't actually answer in any way Perry's basic point about the financing of those programs-his polemics are typically inane but under those is an inescapable truth that SS is not quite what it appears to be.
