Best way to free stuck vent ?

The flapper that works off the heater controls for inside or outside air. It there an easy way to get to it?

Not easy, not clean

But PB Blaster (spray penetrate) will help a lot.

Take off the passenger side black plastic scuttle grille which will let you reach in and work the flapper by hand, which should help things along.

Take the heater box out

The hinge is a piece of metal wrapped around a steel rod and is rusts and eventually siezes. The only way to fix this is to take out the heater box and clean it up. Take the oppritunity to lube all the cables too.

I had this problem on my 850...

Same design, same PITA factor.

Liberal application of liquid wrench etc. and careful working back and forth eventually freed it up.

Oh well......

I have a leaky heater too so I guess I'll just do it all at once. That would be any time between tomorrow and 2013.

I know its a PIA. When Fiat assembled the X they hung the heater box in the middle and built the car around it. Taking the seats out and the steering wheel off makes it easier.
