A friend of mine in HS had a dad who owned a used car shop... he had a Javelin like this for a while. The poor thing had been the victim of a terrible 3 shade purple custom paint job that was hideous.

Buick GS cars had the same shifter! Another friend had a 70 GS455 Stage 1 (bought it for $800 in 1982 I think! Sheesh) Man that car was a terror.

It was called a "staple shifter". Nice classic.
