bottom mount quandry

DougESmith

True Classic
On the left, used stock mount with the exhaust brace extension from '87

On the right, new mount without exhaust brace purchased from Bayless years before it became Midwest Bayless. stamped made in italy

The one on the right caused the drive shaft to rub on the crossbrace. See the differrence?

Can anyone confirm that if i purchase a new mount tomorrow, it wont let the drive shaft rub on the cross brace?

I bought a new mount from Eurosport UK, intended for the non-exhaust bracket setup (all they sell). It does not rub, clearance is good.

I ran into the same thing.

The mount on the right is not for an X1/9. I don't know what it is intended for, but no amount of modification will allow it to work properly. The point at which the pivot mounts in the rubber is too low and will cause the CV to rub on the cross member no matter what you do.

You need to either use your old mount (what I did), or buy another mount and make sure it's correctly aligned before you bolt it to the car. That way you can return it to the seller if it isn't any better.
