CAR THOUGHT FOR THE DAY

I had this happen the other day...

Turned out I lost the pivot bolt from the alternator. But somehow it still was not loose enough to stop charging. It did however have a belt noise on downshifts.

5 Types of Rattles on a Fiat

1. "Every now and again" - like when you make that extreme right hand turn at very slow speed. It's the only time it does it. Doesn't work on a left hand turn, same radius, same speed.

2. "rattle cause by something else being wrong" - these mean trouble for other things, but not the thing itself that's rattling.

3. "sounds like it's coming apart but there's nothing wrong" - Classic for this is when the spring for the catalytic converter comes loose on the Spider, or the muffler springs in the rear on the X come loose, really loud, but usually nothing broken.

4. "it came loose again" These are the rattles that you instantaneously know because it means something is loose, again.

5. "small rattle but major issues" These are the dangerous ones, very subtle but the underlying issues means a major system is about to go South, possibly the least noticed but most damaging.
