There were two lengths of springs manufactured OEM. These are distinguished by a colored stripe mark. Yellow stripe is class'a', Green stripe is a class 'b' which is the shorter of the two. The manual talks of direct interchangability for the two lengths.....so I would assume same diameters, winds, etc. One is probably stiffer. One of the preferred vendors listed and linked on this site offers a trick spring which is custom wound and rated.....think I'll give em a try.

I read in the orig. Fiat workshop manual what these colors really mean. They are meant to devide the stock springs into two classes. I assume the tolerance was too great resulting in cars sitting lopsided.
I doubt that a car would sit noticably lower with the one vs. the other. They also shoudln't be any stiffier since they have the same number of windings, just different spacing between the windings.
The IAP springs are supposed to be a good choice for a street car. Vicks sels similar sprinsg (or the same?).

That would be a rather large tolerance for automated machinery. As noted. "The" book does state that the differing lengths should be used to offset sag induced through time and weight. i.e. replace passenger side with shorter of the two to balance with driver side. That was in the book anyway. You know how that goes. Haven't really researched the rates and metals. Didn't go that deep. Yeah, gonna try Vicks. Sounds like a good combo to try.

I read in the orig. Fiat workshop manual what these colors really mean. They are meant to devide the stock springs into two classes. I assume the tolerance was too great resulting in cars sitting lopsided.
I doubt that a car would sit noticably lower with the one vs. the other. They also shoudln't be any stiffier since they have the same number of windings, just different spacing between the windings.
The IAP springs are supposed to be a good choice for a street car. Vicks sels similar sprinsg (or the same?).

That would be a rather large tolerance for automated machinery. As noted. "The" book does state that the differing lengths should be used to offset sag induced through time and weight. i.e. replace passenger side with shorter of the two to balance with driver side. That was in the book anyway. You know how that goes. Haven't really researched the rates and metals. Didn't go that deep. Yeah, gonna try Vicks. Sounds like a good combo to try.
