I'm trying to determine if it's supposed to be this way. It's about a 1/2" port that points towards the front of the car and doesn't look like there's ever been anything attached to it. With the car running, when you put a finger (preferably not mine) over the hole there's alot of everincreasing vaccuum, but the engine never runs any differently. This leads me to believe it's supposed to be open. I have no shop manual (go to Vick's later this week) and thus no vaccuum hose schematic.

The canister stores fuel vapors from the fuel tank when the motor is off, and draws in a very small metered amount when the motor is running. This opening must be left open.
