It comes from under the car somewhere, and does it when I put the clutch in... it also does it once and a while when I get on the fuel hard or go from full throttle to the brakes. It doesn't seem to affect driving, handling, etc... but I want to make sure it is nothing that will be fatal if I don't take care of it right away.

[FONT=Trebuchet MS, Verdana, Tahoma, Arial]<!-- google_ad_section_start -->This may be totally different from your problem but I just tore into my clutch, for the third time, because it was making a scraping sound when I disengaged the clutch. I had taken the transaxle once thinking it was a throwout bearing, then the clutch plate, and this time was for the pressure plate. There was no visible evidence of scraping on anything. While taking the transaxle out this last time I noticed an oil leak from the rear crank seal. Since I only had 350 miles on the rebuild of the engine and tranny I decided to see what the problem was. When I pulled the rear seal carrier off out came the thrust washers. They weren't in very good condition. They were pretty chewed up. THey obviously had been spun. I think this was the sound I was hearing. as long as the clutch was engaged I think it kept the crank in position. When the clutch was released it alowwed the crank to move and make a srcraping sound. The clutch worked fine, the transmission shifted fine (like new since I had replaced synchros and gears)and I never noticed any problems or noises while driving. It may have made some noise under acceleration or deceleration but the exhaust is rather loud and may have masked any sounds from the problem. The only indication was a sound when the clutch was depressed. I don't know if your noise could be the same thing but here is something to think about. when you have a bad throwout bearing, you will hear a squealing the whole time the clutch is depressed. This may get worse until the bearing seizes completely and you can no longer use the clutch.
It doesn't sound like this is your problem.
It would be smart to find the problem though.

The more I listen to it, the more I htink it might be something in the suspension... Mainly becuse it does it when I step on the gas hard, and when I "short shift"... I think because both of these are harder on the suspension. I have listened to it carefully, and I think it might be in the passengers front side... I'll have it looked at when the brakes get done in a few weeks (ordered new rotors and pads... a friend is helping with the install).

[FONT=Trebuchet MS, Verdana, Tahoma, Arial]<!-- google_ad_section_start -->This may be totally different from your problem but I just tore into my clutch, for the third time, because it was making a scraping sound when I disengaged the clutch. I had taken the transaxle once thinking it was a throwout bearing, then the clutch plate, and this time was for the pressure plate. There was no visible evidence of scraping on anything. While taking the transaxle out this last time I noticed an oil leak from the rear crank seal. Since I only had 350 miles on the rebuild of the engine and tranny I decided to see what the problem was. When I pulled the rear seal carrier off out came the thrust washers. They weren't in very good condition. They were pretty chewed up. THey obviously had been spun. I think this was the sound I was hearing. as long as the clutch was engaged I think it kept the crank in position. When the clutch was released it alowwed the crank to move and make a srcraping sound. The clutch worked fine, the transmission shifted fine (like new since I had replaced synchros and gears)and I never noticed any problems or noises while driving. It may have made some noise under acceleration or deceleration but the exhaust is rather loud and may have masked any sounds from the problem. The only indication was a sound when the clutch was depressed. I don't know if your noise could be the same thing but here is something to think about. when you have a bad throwout bearing, you will hear a squealing the whole time the clutch is depressed. This may get worse until the bearing seizes completely and you can no longer use the clutch.
It doesn't sound like this is your problem.
It would be smart to find the problem though.

The more I listen to it, the more I htink it might be something in the suspension... Mainly becuse it does it when I step on the gas hard, and when I "short shift"... I think because both of these are harder on the suspension. I have listened to it carefully, and I think it might be in the passengers front side... I'll have it looked at when the brakes get done in a few weeks (ordered new rotors and pads... a friend is helping with the install).
