Effectively the trust washers seem to thick. These are new washers, and I can't find the old ones to compare thicknesses (probably threw them away in March after I got the new ones). Anyone have a suggestion? Anyone know how thick the washers should be?

Also, wouldn't oversizing of a thrust washer (instead of a bearing) refer to how big the Arc (circumference) of the washer is, and not the thickness. While on a bearing over/undersizing affects both the Arc and thickness.

Two thoughts.. First, perhaps it's from some other type of Fiat (all SOHC are the same)
Second, and not to be insulting at all, but are you putting them both in the block in the groove on both sides of the rear main bearing? Haven't run into this problem before... let us know what you find,

As for how I was installing the washers I was placing one on each side of the main bearing as is shown in the Haynes manual (page 36, fig 23.2), then trying to rest the crank shaft in place. I've even placed the crankshaft on the bearings with the washers in place, and can slide one of the bearings around the journal on either side in to the place, but can't get them both to fit at the same time.
I don't (yet) own fancy engineering type calipers, but my cheap plastic caliper has it as just over 2mm (0.097in = 2.4mm). So washer thickness doesn't seem to be the problem (Although I wish is was so I could just reorder a new set). So, what else could be the problem. During machining of the block (main bearings oversized to 0.010) could the bearing seat have become deformed and widened. (I know this sound weird but I'm not coming up with any solutions. Although the thought of sanding down the back side of the washers until it's thin enough has crossed my mind).<!-- google_ad_section_end -->

Also, disregard the what I said about machine of the block. The only thing done to the block was bore/oversizing. Which only really leaves the crankstaft as a potential problem. And changing the main and rod bearing size isn't supposed to affect the thrust washers. When a crank is ground, the machinist must insure the proper radius at the ends of the journal, this may be where the problem is.. I'll take some measurements today. You may have to take everything down to the machine shop and have the machinist take a look. It's possible that the crank has an incorrect radius from grinding.

Effectively the trust washers seem to thick. These are new washers, and I can't find the old ones to compare thicknesses (probably threw them away in March after I got the new ones). Anyone have a suggestion? Anyone know how thick the washers should be?
FYI: This is in reference to an 85 X (but I believe they all use the same washers)<!-- google_ad_section_end -->

I believe that just like main and rod bearings, oversize thrust washers are marked on the back side ie. .010 Perhaps you were sent oversize by accident.

Also, wouldn't oversizing of a thrust washer (instead of a bearing) refer to how big the Arc (circumference) of the washer is, and not the thickness. While on a bearing over/undersizing affects both the Arc and thickness.

Two thoughts.. First, perhaps it's from some other type of Fiat (all SOHC are the same)
Second, and not to be insulting at all, but are you putting them both in the block in the groove on both sides of the rear main bearing? Haven't run into this problem before... let us know what you find,

As for how I was installing the washers I was placing one on each side of the main bearing as is shown in the Haynes manual (page 36, fig 23.2), then trying to rest the crank shaft in place. I've even placed the crankshaft on the bearings with the washers in place, and can slide one of the bearings around the journal on either side in to the place, but can't get them both to fit at the same time.
I don't (yet) own fancy engineering type calipers, but my cheap plastic caliper has it as just over 2mm (0.097in = 2.4mm). So washer thickness doesn't seem to be the problem (Although I wish is was so I could just reorder a new set). So, what else could be the problem. During machining of the block (main bearings oversized to 0.010) could the bearing seat have become deformed and widened. (I know this sound weird but I'm not coming up with any solutions. Although the thought of sanding down the back side of the washers until it's thin enough has crossed my mind).<!-- google_ad_section_end -->

Also, disregard the what I said about machine of the block. The only thing done to the block was bore/oversizing. Which only really leaves the crankstaft as a potential problem. And changing the main and rod bearing size isn't supposed to affect the thrust washers. When a crank is ground, the machinist must insure the proper radius at the ends of the journal, this may be where the problem is.. I'll take some measurements today. Are you close to your machine shop? You may have to visit them with block, crank, and bearings...

You may have to take everything down to the machine shop and have the machinist take a look. It's possible that the crank has an incorrect radius from grinding.
I've not run into this problem before.. did you say that you no longer have the originals? Would have been nice and easy to compare... Let us know what you find,
