Drivers door will not lock

The car had a broken powl when I got. I changed it with one from Matt, but the lock still seems stuck. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. The car is an 86'. The window regulator needs spot welded could this have something to do with it? If you guys need pics let me know.

Need more information.

Can you lock it with the Key? How about sitting in the car with the window rolled down, push the button door lock button down on the top of the door and reach outside of the car and pull the door handle. Does the door lock this way?.

I have to admit.

I found the answer to this, but I did not want to look stupid. The door has to be closed to lock. I have had other cars that the lock would lock with the door open, but not this one. Sorry for the trouble.

I hate to think about all the stuff I've LEARNED over the years with this car... helped me with some real LIFE issues also!
