I would suspect its not a POWER issue but a GROUND issue.
I say that only 'cause the situation itself is so wierd!
Try adding a ground wire to the radio chassis and see what happens...
If that's not it, then try another SOURCE of power by first directly wiring the radio's hot lead to the battery (yep... up over the windsield into the trunk is the easiest!)
That should "cure" it. Then you would either need to decide to FIND the problem (or cross) in the main wiring... or run a NEW wire and fuse from the ignition switch or fuse block.
I have a drawing if you need it...
