[FONT=Trebuchet MS, Verdana, Tahoma, Arial]<!-- google_ad_section_start -->Sounds pretty bad huh? Scared me too this Spring. Replaced the header gasket seal and sound was gone. Mine was leaking from cylinder 1. Since your gonna pull stuff out to replace it, do some other stuff while your at it.
Best of luck,

[FONT=Trebuchet MS, Verdana, Tahoma, Arial]<!-- google_ad_section_start -->clean up your intake by opening it up to 40mm but don't polish it. Finish it with 240 emery. Make sure that your head gasket is not impeding the intake or exhaust flow. Alot of times it does and people just put them on and not even bother to check. You can also put another washer under your springs on your head, the valve springs. This will tighten everything up and it is easier when the head is off. Check your shims etc. All the stuff that is easier with the head off. If you want to increase your compression ratio now is the time to do it. Have your head shaved. Course if you want to put in a turbo don't shave your head, on your car that is. Get ahold of Tony Natoli and see if you can get a 4 into 2 manifold from him. It would be a big improvement. Make sure that the intake manifold and exhaust manifold gaskets are not impeding the flow like with the head gasket. The list goes on. Email me if you want more info.<!-- google_ad_section_end -->

What gives?

(bjfry@email.com???)

Also... exhaust leaks usually are loudest under acceleration and would go away when you backed off the gas or when the engine reached a point of ease, read higher revs...

A lifter, would continue to make noise regardless.

If yur gonna go in there and repalce the gasket... (there are two... about 7 bucks for the pair) go in thru the rear trunk after removing the decklid entirely.

Use WD40 and a 13mm socket and about a 12" worth of extensions.

When you gently move the intake away from the head coolant will leak on the floor... use two small buckets or pans to catch it. I find this easier to do that trying to GUESS how much to drain down the system or draining the entire system.

Both gaskets can be replaced by MOVING the intake and exhaust manifolds AWAY from the head without actually REMOVING them from the car.

There is a two-bolt clamp that holds the exhaust pipe up connects to the exhaust manifold and THAT is what you wanna release, not the 3 or 4 spring and bolt assemblies that hold the pipe up and allows it to move in a universal joint of sorts.

As for the carb... just the trottle linkgage should do it after removing the air cleaner in todo!~

Let me know if ya need any more help...

Best Regards,
