Darn, Youtube search 'Audi vs Lancia Grand Tour' and select the 18 minute long Portugal video for entire segment. Its worth every minute.
Have done lots of rallying. Stories like these happen all the time.
I own both Lancias and Audis including an Open class Audi Quattro. GrB was the bomb. Nothing ever like it will ever happen again.
Rallying in US is frail at the moment. Third fatality this year on Saturday. When insurers stop insuring or cost becomes too much that organizers lose $ could happen, especially given some competitors are retiring after realizing the mortality so less entrants to pay.

Best case scenario the scorpion-Montecarlo will no longer just be known as Herbies love interest in movies. Worst case scenario everyone will want one and the value will double like they did for kit Cobras after Ford vs Ferrari came out. I guess that would not be too bad either.
