Like most X projects, the big things are easy and the little things turn into huge problems !
Well as the story goes - the plastic nipple broke off the clutch master, so I figured it would be a perfect time to replace the master. It took no more than 10 minutes to have it unbolted and almost out. I say almost because I could not disconnect the metal hydraulic line.
The plan was to cut the hydraulic line (standard 1/4" tubing) and slap in a new piece of tubing with the new master. Sounds good so far, right? Well the silly Fiat uses an incredibly non-standard flare fitting that as best I can tell is made of unobtanium. 12x1.25 'bubble flare' but it's not listed in any catalogs. Spent 2 hours behind the desk at Napa last night....
I have dissassembled the new master, and think I have a plan- to weld on a 1/4" (SAE) flare fitting. Dissassemble the master first so no damage to the seals, of course. Then run a normal flare line from the master to the cut end, and since the tubing is normal 1/4", why noy use more SAE flare fittings ? (I could get real lazy and use compression but I'm not there yet!)
Does this sound crazy ?

Well no, not quite the end. Now it's somewhere just shy of a crazy a-team stunt.
Weld a flare nut onto the master, put in a little piece of flared tubing (to make the seal) then a union, to about a 2' splice, to a 1/4 sae flare to the factory line.
I don't know weather to feel guilty or laugh at this whole debaucle.

Managed to weld a 1/4" SAE double flare nut to the M12-1.25 ISO bubble flare end of the master cylinder.
I'm not sure if I should be proud or ashamed of this one!
Probably wont be able to swap it in until Saturday tho.

Managed to weld a 1/4" SAE double flare nut to the M12-1.25 ISO bubble flare end of the master cylinder.
I'm not sure if I should be proud or ashamed of this one!
Probably wont be able to swap it in until Saturday tho.
