Levers - try to find a non a/c car in the junkyard - it will have the proper levers, etc... if you can't find one, just leave it... it isn't hurting anything.
The condenser can be removed without removing the radiator. You need a long box wrench (10mm if my memory is right). Remove the grille - the bottom bolts are visible. The top ones are sandwiched in between the rad and the condenser - one on each end. You'll have to feel your way around... it's tight, but can be done.
There isn't a seperate fan for this purpose. I had considered putting a fan on the front of the radiator, but was advised against it by others in the group.
Some of the hoses and piping are easy to remove, others can't be accessed easily - I just left them in there (they aren't visible anyway).

I have a 76 with the mount's for an extra fan, and I was told that the X1/9's in hotter climates used to come with the extra fan. I cant tell you the page. Ithink it's 83420 but the book is so screwed up I can't tell one page from another. Just have to thumb through it until you find what your looking for. You'll likely melt some wiring insulation, burn the relay contacts, or pop a fuse. Instead, you should run a new wire from the fuse panel where the A/C fan would have originally connected, or from the battery (don't forget to fuse it). If you want it to cycle with the existing fan, add a relay that engages when the first fan turns on - a relay won't add that much current to the existing fan circuit.<!-- google_ad_section_end -->

I fixed an Escort that had burned the traces on the A/C controller board because the fan got old and harder to turn. Before the fan got up to speed when the AC was switched on, the trace on the circuit card got hot and melted the solder right off the leg of the relay!
BTW - assuming your furnace motor is running on 120 volts and drawing 3 amps, to blow the same amount of air a motor running on 12 volts would draw 30 amps! P=I*E (power available for work (watts) equals volts times amps. At 1/10 the voltage, you need 10x the current! (simplified, but close enough)<!-- google_ad_section_end -->

Everything you said is CORRECT in theory, and was the same thing that went thru my mind as I installed a second "YUGO" fan... that was made in Japan?!
But before I went ahead with what you suggested, I wired the second fan in parallel with the first ta see what would happen.
I started her up... let her heat up in the garage and finally they both came on... cycled, and cycled again.
Hmmmm... I didn't even upgrade the fuse!!!
It ran that way all last summer and has never given me a problem.
As for night driving... doing the headlight relay conversion has left all the other circuitry to fend for itself without the normal drain.
So... I said all that to simply say that in PRACTICE... it appears to work OK with the stock wiring and fusing. One of very few blessings...

I wonder what the rating on the radiator fan relay is? In a few years you might find one of several things; 1) the fan won't come on because the contacts melted away, 2) the fan won't turn off because the contacts melted together, 3) the fan won't run/runs slow because the quick disconnects on the relay got hot and corroded.
I hope it continues to work well, maybe the circuit can handle it - but assuming it's all ok because it didn't die right away would be like assuming Russian Roulette is safe because you pulled the trigger 5 times and it didn't go boom!
(at least the wiring can always be repaired - hee hee)

No argument from me... I was sure the fuse would pop immediately... but didn't.
I do believe the wiring will handle it though... leaving the relay and stat as certainly the most weakest links.
As I said... I was amazed that I didn't have a problem and its pretty damn hot out here.
I try to carry some parts and a cell phone whenever I go any distance... But this car has never really let me down... and has always gotten me home.

Levers - try to find a non a/c car in the junkyard - it will have the proper levers, etc... if you can't find one, just leave it... it isn't hurting anything.
The condenser can be removed without removing the radiator. You need a long box wrench (10mm if my memory is right). Remove the grille - the bottom bolts are visible. The top ones are sandwiched in between the rad and the condenser - one on each end. You'll have to feel your way around... it's tight, but can be done.
There isn't a seperate fan for this purpose. I had considered putting a fan on the front of the radiator, but was advised against it by others in the group.
Some of the hoses and piping are easy to remove, others can't be accessed easily - I just left them in there (they aren't visible anyway).

I have a 76 with the mount's for an extra fan, and I was told that the X1/9's in hotter climates used to come with the extra fan. You'll likely melt some wiring insulation, burn the relay contacts, or pop a fuse. Instead, you should run a new wire from the fuse panel where the A/C fan would have originally connected, or from the battery (don't forget to fuse it). If you want it to cycle with the existing fan, add a relay that engages when the first fan turns on - a relay won't add that much current to the existing fan circuit.<!-- google_ad_section_end -->

I fixed an Escort that had burned the traces on the A/C controller board because the fan got old and harder to turn. Before the fan got up to speed when the AC was switched on, the trace on the circuit card got hot and melted the solder right off the leg of the relay!
BTW - assuming your furnace motor is running on 120 volts and drawing 3 amps, to blow the same amount of air a motor running on 12 volts would draw 30 amps! P=I*E (power available for work (watts) equals volts times amps. At 1/10 the voltage, you need 10x the current! (simplified, but close enough)<!-- google_ad_section_end -->

Everything you said is CORRECT in theory, and was the same thing that went thru my mind as I installed a second "YUGO" fan... that was made in Japan?!
But before I went ahead with what you suggested, I wired the second fan in parallel with the first ta see what would happen.
I started her up... let her heat up in the garage and finally they both came on... cycled, and cycled again.
Hmmmm... I didn't even upgrade the fuse!!!
It ran that way all last summer and has never given me a problem.
As for night driving... doing the headlight relay conversion has left all the other circuitry to fend for itself without the normal drain.
So... I said all that to simply say that in PRACTICE... it appears to work OK with the stock wiring and fusing. One of very few blessings...

I wonder what the rating on the radiator fan relay is? In a few years you might find one of several things; 1) the fan won't come on because the contacts melted away, 2) the fan won't turn off because the contacts melted together, 3) the fan won't run/runs slow because the quick disconnects on the relay got hot and corroded.
I hope it continues to work well, maybe the circuit can handle it - but assuming it's all ok because it didn't die right away would be like assuming Russian Roulette is safe because you pulled the trigger 5 times and it didn't go boom!

No argument from me... I was sure the fuse would pop immediately... but didn't.
I do believe the wiring will handle it though... leaving the relay and stat as certainly the most weakest links.
As I said... I was amazed that I didn't have a problem and its pretty damn hot out here.
I try to carry some parts and a cell phone whenever I go any distance... But this car has never really let me down... and has always gotten me home.
