Boy, the synchro hub ridges are sharp! I had no idea those little ridges on my old gears were so worn!
Seeing how sharp they are I can't imagine how Fiat ever expects the synchro to wear first.
Anyway, both gears have small problems but since I've never bought new gears I don't know what is to be expected and what should be returned.
One gear has a small ding on the edge of one tooth, probably would file off with a pass or two of the file. Other than this the gear looks perfect. I would tend to think this is one to keep?
The other has a tiny ding or chip (hard to say which, I just see a shiny spot) on the corner of a tooth, and the outermost ring of the synchro hub is a bit munged on the same side as the chip. I'm thinking this one should go back to Vicks (though I don't think the synchro touches that ring).
So, wadayathink? Time to wait another week for a package from Texas?

I'm just starting to explore transaxles myself, but I do have a little experience in a machine shop. Better to wait just a week than to go to the trouble to put it back on, discover the prob, then discover that because you installed it, your stuck with it......The gear with the little ding on the side of the tooth should be ok, like you said, flie it off. Use a fine file and light preassure and be VARY carefull.......
