Yes! 8qts. As most of you know by now I have a 128 engine and was told the oil pan and oil pump should be changed. After installing the new oil pump I noticed the end of the dip stick was only 1/2" in. past the bottom of the bottom of the block. I took my new used aluminum X oil pan and filled it with 5 qts of water and it came within 7/8 in. of the top. That's 3/8" below the dip stick! Conclusion: I must have the wrong dip stick! Chiltons Fiat Manual says I need 5.3 qts with filter and 4.5 qts without, Chiltons Import Car Manual says 4.5 and 4.5. They must think the filter doesn't matter. Haynes on the other hand says 4 1/3 both ways! Who to believe? While I had her unbuttoned I looked around in there and like a Doctor poking around for a tumor and something didn't look right. Back to the manuals I went and sure enough a pipe that Chiltons calls an oil return pipe from the Shaddled bore is missing. The Fiat manual calls it an "oil return pipe from the saddled bore" Ether way you spell it it's missing. Haynes just calls it an oil return pipe. (Smart). Did some Bozo just pitch it out figuring it was like an appendix in a human and worthless or do I really need it. I need help on this one guys. Thanks JP<!-- google_ad_section_end -->

[FONT=Trebuchet MS, Verdana, Tahoma, Arial]<!-- google_ad_section_start -->Steve, I just took a good look at the crankcase on the flywheel end and there isn't a hole or boss anywhere to be found. If a drain pipe is supposed to be there I don't know how they did it. The illustration in the manuals aren't to clear but it looks like it's pretty much in the middle, so it has to be lower to clear the crank counterweight. This would mean a hole in the oil pan. We know this isn't so. The only conclusion is that the 128 block is quite a bit different than the X or the manuals are all wrong. Ideas? Thanks JP

I have found MANY errors in the Haynes manual also as to measures... but in this case... with a stock engine, its correct.

I GENERALLY use a PH7 Fram (as they are widely available as compared to other makes) and its about 15% larger than most other makes for my car.

I can't help ya on the return tube though... good luck.
