Of coarse this that made all my shims to thick to maintain clearance. I bought a valve adjustment tool #58865 maid in Italy. I had to modify the tool to get it to work. #1, The camshaft is not machined between the cam lobes, so being a rough casting the tool doesn't work the same on each valve. #2 My tool was to wide and instead of pushing down the buckets it was pushing down on the shims.I machined the tool down to .250" to get it to work. A little more wouldn't hurt. #3 The tool hit the front of the cam box opening when rotated forward. I had to notch out the tool with a grinding wheel to get a little more rotation. I also made a little tool to lift the shims up straight. I took a small scroll saw blade and ground one end down to about .080 wide about 2" from the end. I put a 35 degree bend in it about 1" from the end. Using a very small screwdriver (Jewelers type) I pried the shims up to the cocked position.(They wont come out this way as many of you know) I then slid the the little tool under the shim and very gently pried up,Being careful not putting in to much pressure and at the same time pushing down on the front of the shim to level it out. Presto!!!! up she comes!(It doesn't hurt to squirt something in there to thin the oil)Use tweezers or machinists magnet to retrieve shim. I hope this helps many of you having this problem. Its that little brass colored thing that the rod fits into. Take that sucker and find a 3/8 or slightly larger bolt (.400). Drop it into it and mash it with a vice. It makes a dandy tool for holding back the tensioning spring. You know the old story- Give the hardest job to the laziest guy and he will always find the easiest way to do it.
