It had been running up around 1700rpm. I checked the adjustment screw today and backed it down to where it does not even make contact with the throttle cam, and it still only went down to about 1000-1100 rpm or so. If I am not mistaken the 'correct' idle speed is 850rpm. Any thoughts?

[FONT=Trebuchet MS, Verdana, Tahoma, Arial]<!-- google_ad_section_start -->Hi Scott, first thing to check is the aux air regulator. It's supposed to make a faster idle when the motor is cold. If it sticks open, it will idle too fast when warm. Take a pair of needle-nosed pliers and pinch the hose shut. If it slows down (when the car is warm)you've found the problem. Also check for vacuum leaks in general. It's also possible for the distributor mechanical advance to get sticky, and not return to the idle advance. That will make it idle too fast also. The idle stop screw is not normally adjusted. When you have the other problems fixed, and the car warm, close the air bypass screw on the top of the plenum chamber, then set the idle stop screw to approx 700-750 rpm. Then open the air bypass screw to obtain an idle of 950 or so. Also check the throttle switch adjustment now. It should "click" just as the throttle opens and closes(motor off). Loosen the two hold down screws and rotate as needed. Good luck,
