It has a carb. Question: It is black with blue interior. Was this an available scheme. I have been asked if the car was blue in a previous life. I can not find any signs of a paint job (inside doors, floor, engine compartment, trunks, etc)and there are not signs of the motor pulled to paint compartment, the deep wheel wells in the rear trunk have original fittings, etc. Can any of you X1/9 know it alls (I mean that as a compliment) tell me if this is correct scheme. (Paint code plate???) I want to restore to original specs, and need to know what color to paint. Scheme: blue interior, black outer?

In '79, most X's I have seen had a light Beige vinyl with a brown cloth panel seat cover. The door panels were also biege vinyl... the dash and console were a dark saddle brown... and they also had a Blue interior theme! They also had a medium blue paint scheme.
I believe the '80s were very similar... as in '81 they went to FI and aluminum wheels and a bunch of other upgrades.
I do not have a color brochure for 1980 and ya may wanna keep your eye on http://www.ebay.com for one being sold.
If you do indeed wish to do a PUREST restoration, ya gotta know you have chosen the most EXPENSIVE course and will need to "suffer through" with NO upgrades to keep it as the FACTORY built it.
Along those lines... I think there is an ORIGINAL window sticker for sale on ebay going for 6 bucks... for a 1980!~ That would be a unique little addition at any car show!
Another thing... and keep this one posted in the forefront of your mind... In 1978, FIAT was going through a myrid of union issues with their labor and there was quite a lengthy strike.
From what I have been able to piece together... my '79 was quite possibly a '78 LIDO body, destined for England withy a RHD format. My wiring harness I have never found a match for, and travels down the "wrong" side of the car. The original paint was a METALLIC Black also... which only appeared on the '78 LIDO.
So here I gots a '79 LHD with RHD drive wiring and a '78 paint job. I believe it was originally sold in April of 1980... as a 1979 car...
So I said all that to simply say this... there isn't always a RIGHT answer for a PURE stock machine...

Not to take a poke at you... but I understand a "restoration" to be "returning the car to a condition as it was ORIGINALLY manufactured".
That would also include colors as specified on its build sheet or ID plate.
Any... any modification FROM original including spark plugs, would be a MODIFICATION.
Since there are many MODIFIED vehicles around... many clubs and organizations have adopted a "middle of the ground" word that is composed of a little of both, and call them REST-I-FIED.
Some clubs limit the mods to 6 or 10 like radios and tires or interior colors... but don't specify what. If you go over the "magic number" that a Judge can actually see... he'll/she'll disqualify you from the class, or not score you, or suggest you compete in a "modified" class.
Most Restifieds are rather STOCK appearing and just don't go to the trouble of installing a point/condensor distributor when an electronic ignition replacement is cheaper, easier and provides more ponies and less maintenance!
MANY folks make the statement that they are RESTORING there cars when in the truest sense, they are not.
Restorations, and the act of restoring... is generally the most EXPENSIVE and most TIME CONSUMING task that can be done to a car... But most importantly... KNOWING there are better, cheaper, nicer, and faster alternatives out there... the purest must DISREGARD them and go the course of the manufacturer.
I don't think any of us want to "take away" from the hard work and meaning of a RESTORED car... by stating the we are doing the same thing, when we are not.
Not to pick on you, I used to tell folks the same thing... and MY car is far from a restoration... its now in the MODIFIED class.
I thought that this would be a good opportunity to relate the sentiment that is gaining in popularity... at least here in the colonies.

BTW I grew up in North Hollywood, CA a few miles down the street from Nudie's Western Wear. Nudie grew up poor and when he finally got his first set of boots, they didn't match...
Many years later he became the "Outfitter to the Stars"... (western stars, they were...) and his trademarks became the most OBSCENELY ORNATE WESTERN PARAPHERNALIA BEDECKED Pontiac and Cadillac Convertibles you ever saw... right into the mid seventies. They were mostly white convertibles... chrome guns for door handles, chrome rifles bolted to the rear wings, bull horns across the front, and interior re-done in tan saddle leather...
Now as a well-to-do successful business man... he still wore pairs of insanely vibrant, and NOTICEABLY mis-matched boots EVERY DAY... so he never forgot from whence he came!

In '79, most X's I have seen had a light Beige vinyl with a brown cloth panel seat cover. The door panels were also biege vinyl... the dash and console were a dark saddle brown... and they also had a Blue interior theme! They also had a medium blue paint scheme.
I believe the '80s were very similar... as in '81 they went to FI and aluminum wheels and a bunch of other upgrades.
I do not have a color brochure for 1980 and ya may wanna keep your eye on http://www.ebay.com for one being sold.
If you do indeed wish to do a PUREST restoration, ya gotta know you have chosen the most EXPENSIVE course and will need to "suffer through" with NO upgrades to keep it as the FACTORY built it.
Along those lines... I think there is an ORIGINAL window sticker for sale on ebay going for 6 bucks... for a 1980!~ That would be a unique little addition at any car show!
Another thing... and keep this one posted in the forefront of your mind... In 1978, FIAT was going through a myrid of union issues with their labor and there was quite a lengthy strike.
From what I have been able to piece together... my '79 was quite possibly a '78 LIDO body, destined for England withy a RHD format. My wiring harness I have never found a match for, and travels down the "wrong" side of the car. The original paint was a METALLIC Black also... which only appeared on the '78 LIDO.
So here I gots a '79 LHD with RHD drive wiring and a '78 paint job. I believe it was originally sold in April of 1980... as a 1979 car...
So I said all that to simply say this... there isn't always a RIGHT answer for a PURE stock machine...

Not to take a poke at you... but I understand a "restoration" to be "returning the car to a condition as it was ORIGINALLY manufactured".
That would also include colors as specified on its build sheet or ID plate.
Any... any modification FROM original including spark plugs, would be a MODIFICATION.
Since there are many MODIFIED vehicles around... many clubs and organizations have adopted a "middle of the ground" word that is composed of a little of both, and call them REST-I-FIED.
Some clubs limit the mods to 6 or 10 like radios and tires or interior colors... but don't specify what. If you go over the "magic number" that a Judge can actually see... he'll/she'll disqualify you from the class, or not score you, or suggest you compete in a "modified" class.
Most Restifieds are rather STOCK appearing and just don't go to the trouble of installing a point/condensor distributor when an electronic ignition replacement is cheaper, easier and provides more ponies and less maintenance!
MANY folks make the statement that they are RESTORING there cars when in the truest sense, they are not.
Restorations, and the act of restoring... is generally the most EXPENSIVE and most TIME CONSUMING task that can be done to a car... But most importantly... KNOWING there are better, cheaper, nicer, and faster alternatives out there... the purest must DISREGARD them and go the course of the manufacturer.
I don't think any of us want to "take away" from the hard work and meaning of a RESTORED car... by stating the we are doing the same thing, when we are not.
Not to pick on you, I used to tell folks the same thing... and MY car is far from a restoration... its now in the MODIFIED class.
I thought that this would be a good opportunity to relate the sentiment that is gaining in popularity... at least here in the colonies.

BTW I grew up in North Hollywood, CA a few miles down the street from Nudie's Western Wear. Nudie grew up poor and when he finally got his first set of boots, they didn't match...
Many years later he became the "Outfitter to the Stars"... (western stars, they were...) and his trademarks became the most OBSCENELY ORNATE WESTERN PARAPHERNALIA BEDECKED Pontiac and Cadillac Convertibles you ever saw... right into the mid seventies. They were mostly white convertibles... chrome guns for door handles, chrome rifles bolted to the rear wings, bull horns across the front, and interior re-done in tan saddle leather...
Now as a well-to-do successful business man... he still wore pairs of insanely vibrant, and NOTICEABLY mis-matched boots EVERY DAY... so he never forgot from whence he came!

Have a friend that built a dual axle four wheel drive Lincoln continental 'pickup' in emeron and the final touch were the bullhorns. It was a perfect combination for that type of build. Very dramatic.

Sorry if I gave you nightmare about the originality of your car. All the blue interior X1/9's I have seen in the past were originally silver or blue. But in typical Fiat fashion, anything is possible.
Or... maybe the paint is original and the interior was from another car? (like on mine, I got a black leather interior from a 1987 car).

Don't worry about scaring me. It takes more than that. I payed next to nothing for the car, and intend to make several mods, just wanted to know. I am a rookie when it comes to these cars. Most of my restore... sorry restify... projects have been chevys and such...
