Everyone was running it for the first time at the last race and a few teams suffered severe problems with the new launch control systems (tied in with the traction control) which nearly ended up with the race being black flagged on the first lap!
The FIA made an executive decision the TC SHOULD be allowed, primarily for safety reasons since the new cars are now faster than the previous years and running less downforce.

Traction control has been reintroduced as the only method by which parity can be achieved between all teams. All of this can be found on the official F1 website as well as the support sites run by enthusiasts.
The reason for all of this is that a certain team of latin origin has, for a few seasons past, been exploiting their knowledge of computer controlling software, giving them an unfair advantage.
Charlie Whiting, the F1 Technical Director, has been frustrated in his efforts to detect these systems and has reluctantly concluded that, despite opposition from some teams, drivers and enthusiasts, there is no alternative to its reintroduction if a level playing field is to be maintained.
The main advantages to those teams able to tame the technology are:
1) As a launch control the driver selects 'LAUNCH', plants his right boot to the boards and presses 'GO' when the lights on the Starting Board go out.
2) As a traction control, the systems engineer takes maximum corner values (G, engine speed, steering angle etc) and inputs the info into the cars black box. When the car enters the corner the drivers hits a button and his mount automatically shifts to the right gear and allows only the optimum throttle to get the optimum result.
Traction control has reintroduced reliability problems as the cylinder spark chopping, used to reduce power, allows unburnt fuel into the exhaust manifold where it ignites and causes fires. It also alters the peak loading on the crankshaft, producing spectacular engine failures.
Last time out both Hakkinen and three others (including both Jordans) were turned into spectators on the grid, coming damn close to causing a really bad pileup.
So worried is Eddie Jordan about the reliability issue that he has deleted the sofware from his cars.
Far from slowing the cars down it has reduced lap times by as much as 3 seconds - this in a sport which prides itself on its close competition results - sometimes in the 1/1000th of a second range. It follows that any team not able to afford a pukka TCS will be left trailing in the dust of the mega teams - just the result that the FIA was at pains to avoid.
Have you heard the cars now? Sound like farm tractors on the corners.
Notice how, now Williams and J-P are getting their act together, that the once impregnable Schuey is being caught/passed? What about the team orders for Rubeno?

Everyone was running it for the first time at the last race and a few teams suffered severe problems with the new launch control systems (tied in with the traction control) which nearly ended up with the race being black flagged on the first lap!
The FIA made an executive decision the TC SHOULD be allowed, primarily for safety reasons since the new cars are now faster than the previous years and running less downforce.

Traction control has been reintroduced as the only method by which parity can be achieved between all teams. All of this can be found on the official F1 website as well as the support sites run by enthusiasts.
The reason for all of this is that a certain team of latin origin has, for a few seasons past, been exploiting their knowledge of computer controlling software, giving them an unfair advantage.
Charlie Whiting, the F1 Technical Director, has been frustrated in his efforts to detect these systems and has reluctantly concluded that, despite opposition from some teams, drivers and enthusiasts, there is no alternative to its reintroduction if a level playing field is to be maintained.
The main advantages to those teams able to tame the technology are:
1) As a launch control the driver selects 'LAUNCH', plants his right boot to the boards and presses 'GO' when the lights on the Starting Board go out.
2) As a traction control, the systems engineer takes maximum corner values (G, engine speed, steering angle etc) and inputs the info into the cars black box. When the car enters the corner the drivers hits a button and his mount automatically shifts to the right gear and allows only the optimum throttle to get the optimum result.
Traction control has reintroduced reliability problems as the cylinder spark chopping, used to reduce power, allows unburnt fuel into the exhaust manifold where it ignites and causes fires. It also alters the peak loading on the crankshaft, producing spectacular engine failures.
Last time out both Hakkinen and three others (including both Jordans) were turned into spectators on the grid, coming damn close to causing a really bad pileup.
So worried is Eddie Jordan about the reliability issue that he has deleted the sofware from his cars.
Far from slowing the cars down it has reduced lap times by as much as 3 seconds - this in a sport which prides itself on its close competition results - sometimes in the 1/1000th of a second range. It follows that any team not able to afford a pukka TCS will be left trailing in the dust of the mega teams - just the result that the FIA was at pains to avoid.
Have you heard the cars now? Sound like farm tractors on the corners.
Notice how, now Williams and J-P are getting their act together, that the once impregnable Schuey is being caught/passed? What about the team orders for Rubeno?
