Funny you say this, I am installing a complete set (03 and 04) on my 87 this weekend. I can measure it (have calipers, will travel) if you need a dead on reading.

I have what I cann nice x and race x at the house. race x will be dsp autocrosser.
desire to get behind wheel sooned means nice x will go to STS autocross config.
extra set of KYB's will be converted to coilovers.

Quite do-able.
Most threaded 2.5" spring collars have a 2.0" ID, The KYB strut damper tubes will fit inside threaded collars for 2.5" springs.
Any welding on sealed KYB dampers is a no-no..
