later front calipers on early X

Hi,

Is there any reason you can not put the later model front calipers on an early model X?

If you can is there performance gains by doing so?

Thanks,
Tim

The later calipers will reduce unsprung weight somewhat. IIRC, the later pistons are 1 mm larger in diameter, perhaps in an attempt to reduce the potential for the rear wheels to lock before the fronts. I did not notice a difference on my '76, but it was far from a back-to-back comparison so there might have been one and I just didn't recognize it.

the later style calipers are all cast, which i guess dissipates heat better than the earlier 2 piece calipers
