But no more... It really is a well thought out and reasonably easy car to service. I was just brought up on Chevrolets, Mopars, and Cadillacs! I thought Ford and VW did everything BACKWARDS!
I guess I'm just more flexible in my old age... and think "outta the box" more often... Or maybe its the PROZAC?
Anyway... I'm sure Ansa (if they're still in business) makes 4 port exhausts... but I'm equally sure, not for this car!

If yur into the complexity of such an exhaust... I think yur gonna haveta make it yurself!
I kinda think its overkill, over-rated, heavy, and aesthically demanding...
For a poor man's header system, use a '74 4 - 2 exhaust and port it to a PAIR of mufflers and tips... split or to one side (easier).
Other stock 4 - 2 exhaust manifolds that will work are '79 Strada's and '87 Yugo's... One of which I happen to have in my garage collecting dust...
The last two have ports for AIR pumps and/or O2 sensors if needed. If, not, they cork up easily.
Headers are still available for about 180 less a muffler system... and they're quite nice also.
Lastly... someone was telling me that they saw a X with twin motorcyle exhaust pipes and mufflers underneath! Pretty trick, HUH!

It's been on the car for about 7 years with no problems.
After installation the car wouldn't start, so I got a friend to tow me, eventually she fired but only on two cylinders and white smoke billowed out of the exhaust. I then discovered that I'd left a washer off the inlet manifold, problem solved.
As for the sound, it's a bit louder than stock (my wife says it sounds like a tractor) but I like it.<!-- google_ad_section_end -->

Tony,
Thanks for the request for information! At this time, the "performance"
version of the Fiat X1/9 system has been discontinued by Ansa in Italy. We
do, however, have inventory available on Original Equipment style stock
replacement. Attached is a photo showing the configuration and part
number.
The front pipe is no longer available, but the actual muffler is.
If you are interested, let me know. We have inventory available in our
California warehouse.

But no more... It really is a well thought out and reasonably easy car to service. I was just brought up on Chevrolets, Mopars, and Cadillacs! I thought Ford and VW did everything BACKWARDS!
I guess I'm just more flexible in my old age... and think "outta the box" more often... Or maybe its the PROZAC?
Anyway... I'm sure Ansa (if they're still in business) makes 4 port exhausts... but I'm equally sure, not for this car!

If yur into the complexity of such an exhaust... I think yur gonna haveta make it yurself!
I kinda think its overkill, over-rated, heavy, and aesthically demanding...
For a poor man's header system, use a '74 4 - 2 exhaust and port it to a PAIR of mufflers and tips... split or to one side (easier).
Other stock 4 - 2 exhaust manifolds that will work are '79 Strada's and '87 Yugo's... One of which I happen to have in my garage collecting dust...
The last two have ports for AIR pumps and/or O2 sensors if needed. If, not, they cork up easily.
Headers are still available for about 180 less a muffler system... and they're quite nice also.
Lastly... someone was telling me that they saw a X with twin motorcyle exhaust pipes and mufflers underneath! Pretty trick, HUH!

It's been on the car for about 7 years with no problems.
After installation the car wouldn't start, so I got a friend to tow me, eventually she fired but only on two cylinders and white smoke billowed out of the exhaust. I then discovered that I'd left a washer off the inlet manifold, problem solved.
As for the sound, it's a bit louder than stock (my wife says it sounds like a tractor) but I like it.<!-- google_ad_section_end -->

Tony,
Thanks for the request for information! At this time, the "performance"
version of the Fiat X1/9 system has been discontinued by Ansa in Italy. We
do, however, have inventory available on Original Equipment style stock
replacement. Attached is a photo showing the configuration and part
number.
The front pipe is no longer available, but the actual muffler is.
If you are interested, let me know. We have inventory available in our
California warehouse.

The photo showed the '78 and later STOCK exhaust system... of which only the muffler was available.
Looks like used, custom, or NOS will be the only resourses.
