Seats are from a '92 Miata that I got from a salvage yard for $100/pair.

The swap was pretty straightforward. I decided to use the Fiat rails, as they are securely welded onto the floor of the car. I first cut the rails off the bottoms of the trashed Fiat seats by drilling out the spot welds. This was the most time consuming part as there are about 8-10 welds on each side. Then I just bolted the rails onto the bottoms of the Miata seats, carefully measuring for correct width and parallelism. It may take a few tries to get them to slide smoothly. Curiously, the Miata rails' width differ between driver/pass seat. I used the stock Miata bolt holes on the pass side but had to drill new holes for the driver's side. One more thing- I had to dent the bottom of both seats about 3/4" to clear the spring holddowns on the car's floor (not used with new seats).

Overall, I'm pretty happy with them. They look like they fit the car and offer excellent support. My only complaint is that the seat bottoms do tilt rearward more than the stock ones did. Think I'm getting used to it, though. Hope this helps anyone considering doing a similar swap.

[FONT=Trebuchet MS, Verdana, Tahoma, Arial]<!-- google_ad_section_start -->Looks like it came with the car. Actually better than stock. I wonder if they made them with power and lumbar support?? I may do this to my rat seated 83. I tried this with a set of (free) Fiero seats. Those suckers where way too wide. Looked good , but very tight fit. My legs hit the wheel and I couldn't drive with it in there.

There are leather seats that were offered in the Miata. They're shaped like the cloth ones, only came in tan except for 1 year in red (I think), and had speakers in the headrests. Don't think they were power. You might check www.miata.net for details.

Sorry for the quality of the photos. I used a cheap (free) PC camera. But thanks for the compliments!

[FONT=Trebuchet MS, Verdana, Tahoma, Arial]<!-- google_ad_section_start -->First, I would like to add my compliments to a great looking modification.

Second, I have 2 questions. 1)I didn't quite understand what wasn't being used with reference to "I had to dent the bottom of both seats about 3/4" to clear the spring holddowns on the car's floor (not used with new seats)". What do the spring holddowns do? 2). Are the seat backs thinner that the fiat seat? I noticed, your comment that the seat sits taller, but can you sit further back to compensate?

Thanks in advance.

[FONT=Trebuchet MS, Verdana, Tahoma, Arial]<!-- google_ad_section_start -->Hi Marvin, sorry for the absense, I haven't been able to log on for a few days. The spring holddowns are u-shaped pieces of metal, one on each side of the floor, that are directly under the seats. They had a big spring going from them to each of the original seat bottoms to give a "spring action" when adjusting the seat. Since the Miata seat bottoms are thicker, these 'hooks' interfeared with the movement of the seats fore and aft. Rather than cutting them off (difficult), I just bashed in the seat bottoms a little (easy) so the seats would clear them.

As for the thickness of the seat backs, I don't know if they are thinner than stock (don't think they are). I'm not really tall so I haven't even put the seat back all the way. When I said they sit taller, that was referring to the front of the seat. The rear of the seat bottom sits low like the originals. This is just due to the design of the Miata seat, you can't really change it.

Hope this helps,
Danny<!-- google_ad_section_end -->
