It’s a good idea to change the top torque rod engine mount, also known as the “dogbone”, to a solid mount. Use two 5/8 inch female rod ends with a threaded rod connecting the two. Drill out the holes in the mounting brackets to 7/16 inch diameter. Fabricate spacers to take up the difference between the rod end and the brackets. Use aircraft quality 7/16 inch bolts and lock nuts. This modification reduces a lot of the rocking motion of the engine.
The side engine mount, known as the “snail mount”, can be left in the stock configuration. Just check the condition of the rubber and renew if necessary.
The stock engine/transmission support cross member has a weakness. They tend to twist or bend under high lateral load from racing or autocrossing. Steel plates can be welded to box-in the support structure to make it stronger.
Finally, check the condition of the lower engine/transaxle mount. If suspect, new ones are hard to locate. There are reproductions, but the early 1300-engined mount is a little different than the later 1500 cars with the 5-speed transmission.

mount

stay with the rubber dogbone if you can.I have built a heim dogbone and it is harsh for street use.no flex whatsoever,so if your on a date with your woman(or man) warn them of the impending whiplash. I loved mine but my dates would rather be in a toyota landcruiser offroad.
