These car be reliable if they have good maintenance... you may run into a few things right at first, but once you work them all out, you should be fine.
Are they fast? In stock form, no, not really. At the same time, I challenge you to find a car that is more fun to drive! With some mods, they can be made pretty speedy.
Poor ride quality? I'd say that's a bit strong. Assuming that your struts are OK, and there are no other probelms in the suspension, it may just be that you aren't used to such a stiff ride. It is not designed to ride like a Cadillac... or even a Miata - make no mistake about it, this is a sports car right to the core, and as such, provides a sometimes bumpy, but incredibly responsive ride.

Say maybe 160 ponies? I believe the Miata has 160, but it is heavier. Also, probably the gearing is not the best from factory, or what doi you think?
