O2 Sensor placement

I want to add an O2 sensor to aid in setting up my carb. I am running a 74 4-2-1 exhaust. is there enough room in the down pipe to install an O2 sensor. How much do they stick into the pipe.

I was planning to stick it on one of these pipes.

So Robert... you'd just use it for tuning purposes?

Are you running dual exhausts all the way out... or do the two pipes "collect" somewhere? It would be BEST to sense the exhaust where the sensor can sniff all four ports.

I think if it was me I'd just shove the sensor in one or both exhaust pipes and then remove it... much like a smog sniffer... and make whatever adjustments from there.

You could also weld in some "bungs" in to one or both the down pipes... and then plug them afterwards... but I don't think it would be anymore effective.

As for how far they protrude into the exhaust stream, I know not... but a comparison to a known FI system oughtta get ya into the ballpark. Hopefully someone will chime in...
