Hey Mark... some of those...

Racks had THUMB SCREW KNOBS so you could remove and install the racks at will. You would remove the rack and then just reinstall the knobs to cover the studs sticking up.

The rack could indeed be installed BACKWARDS like this one was, as there was no difference in the "hole pattern".
