[FONT=Trebuchet MS, Verdana, Tahoma, Arial]<!-- google_ad_section_start -->The answer depends on condition and where you are in the country.

Most of these blokes (see, using a Brit word to make you feel welcome

live in Washington state and Oregon. I'll let them address their rust probelms, but my impression is that they are minimal.

I'm in New York state, and here we get a lot of snow, use salt on the roads, etc... rust is a huge problem!

Running and driving cars here in the northeast fetch between $1000 and $2500 USD. Cars in exceptional condition fetch more.

Now, a question for you... I read a lot of the british car magazine, and I always see references to the MOT. I have figured out (I think) that it's a form of safety inspection, but what does it stand for, and what does it consist of?

Cheers,

Doc<!-- google_ad_section_end -->

[FONT=Trebuchet MS, Verdana, Tahoma, Arial]<!-- google_ad_section_start -->Hi Doc

It should actually be MOT Test as MOT stands for Ministry of Transport, a quaint old British term.

Basically it is, as you guessed, an annual safety inspection carried out on all cars as soon as they reach 3 years old. It consists of checking the main safety related features of the car - brakes, suspension, steering, emissions etc and costs about £30 (sterling. Without a current MOT certificate a car cannot be driven on the public highway (with a couple of execeptions)

So there you go - the MOT test in a nutshell.

The interior of the fenders were of course gone on both cars, and there were rust bits everywhere. On the one with the floorpan problem, I had to replace my own windshield because auto glass shops refused by business, because they said the heavy rust around the windshield was a safety hazard. I'll admit the problems in cold places are more severe, but I think thinking about water while in your X makes it rust.<!-- google_ad_section_end -->

[FONT=Trebuchet MS, Verdana, Tahoma, Arial]<!-- google_ad_section_start -->Nice to hear from a Brit!! It would seem that US prices parallel those asked in the UK from what I have seen on the UK clubsite listings. We don't see the kind of prices demanded by British dealers in the various slick-cover car and bike magazines. Price disparities seem to have encouraged a brisk export business to the UK with regard to 70's and 80's era motorcycles. Have heard that one Chicago area bike dealer ships 6-7 containers a year. Can you give some opinions on the best way to ship stuff between our two countries. For example, I am interested in some 3-spoke early Cromodoras(type II? wheel on X19 clubsite) and Uno turbo parts. A Brit by name of Pete inquired about a Saratoga top. United Parcel Service covers both areas, but has size, weight limits and outrageous prices. Are there any slow, reliable and cheap shippers of which you may be aware? With regard to rust: Seems to be a problem everywhere. Standing water in footwells, luggage compartments, door recesses etc. guarantees perforations. In the desert Southwest(I live in New Mexico) it would seem that rust slows dramatically. Almost comes to a standstill on most cars. We still have rusty Fiats. The big problem in this area is that the sun vaporizes interiors and any exterior rubber. Most chassis that I have seen from this area(Arizona, New Mexico, Utah, Nevada) appear rebuildable. Easily rebuildable in contrast to some of the heroic undertakings chronicled in the British magazines. <!-- google_ad_section_end -->

You can still get them nationwide in the US somewhat easily, and it seems like they're available in Europe as well. I guess for the perfect X, $1000 wouldn't be that bad a price to pay though.

"[in 1992] I selected pick-up at home (in the US) and delivery to the harbor in Antwerp; it did cost around US$ 1000. I had it organized by _Rainier Movers(?)_ (somewhere in Washington state); can recommend them."

the following costs:
o Truck to San Francisco US$250
o Schip from SFO to Bremen (via Panama) US$800
o Handling in Bremen DM300
o Costums and Tax ("Umzugsgut"!) zilch
o remodeling for Tuev DM600

Costums: Since I had owned the car for more than 6 months, and my
residence was in the US, I was exempted.
Otherwise it would have been 15% tax, 10% customs (22% for
pickups) based on the value of the car.

Insurance: my German insurance insured the car temporarily for remodeling.

Remodeling: the car is a Mazda Miata, 1990. It's sold just the same

from parking lights, brake lights need individual fuses."

He can provide a complete shell, half or quarter. Has many grills, hoods, roofs, decklids, a coupla early front spoilers, and window glass.

You mentioned turbos and enfine parts... what kind of "dollars" are you talking about???
