Rainy day wrenching, 3/30/14: Wiper parking fixed!

I revisited my wiper motor issue after a long rainy saturday drive during which intermittent wipers would have been nice. I took the motor out (I'm getting good at it) and removed the tan cover, then the black cover to which some wires are soldered. On the backside of this is the momentary switch contacts which control the run-til-parked function.

The joint the arrow points to is the crucial one, I sanded mine with 600 grit wet/dry sandpaper and then polished it with plain paper. After several tries I got it to reliably conduct current. This contact conducts current anytime the motor is turned on and even after it's turned off until the white plastic cam opens it.

I've done this before, but not well enough apparently... I noticed the wiper motor would run when I bridged the contacts on the left with a test light probe and so knew the contacts weren't clean enough yet.

Thanks to Jeff McGarvey on Mirafiori.com for the inspiration to look at it again.
