Salt Lake City

Hi everyone,

so I find myself (at pretty short notice) with a week to kill in Salt Lake City. Does anyone know the area. Any "insider" tips?

Thanks!
Dom.

In general there are a lot of beautiful areas around Utah not far from there you can visit, if you have transportation and the snow hasn't hit yet. Some nice driving roads surrounding SLC. Plenty of cool things to see around the city as well. Also there's a couple of interesting shops that do great work building cars in SLC (non-Fiat). You aren't far from Las Vegas if you want to spend a couple of days away from SLC....but Vegas has nothing to offer outside of the casinos.

My son lives there, so I might be able to give some names of recommended social spots in town (applicable to someone in their 20s maybe?...so that's a factor). He spends his spare time on the periphery of town hiking, fishing & mountain biking & of course to that end there are plenty of interesting attractions as you head out of town towards Park City, right?

If you have a rental car, take a day trip or two. One trip is to Park City. This is where the winter olympics were in 2002. Go east from downtown SLC on I-80 for about 45 minutes and exit US40 to Park City and you can go south to Heber City and then west back to Salt Lake valley. A half day trip is to drive out to view the Salt Lake which is rapidly shrinking.

Many thanks for the tips everyone! Much appreciated. Unfortunately, work ate up pretty much all my time and a week went by in a flash. It is certainly a nice part of the world though. The US has such a variety of landscapes! So now I'm sitting in San Francisco airport getting ready for a 15 hour flight back home :(
