The trim shop guy said it was a 12 step process- he's a little wacky. Anyway, it appears the rails are tack welded to the car's floor. Do I drill these out (where are the rear welds?) or is there a way to slide the seats off the rails? Wish Fiat would have just bolted these things in. Thanks for any and all help.

My '78 and '79 have seats that slide all the way forward and off the rails (which are part of the floor). It connects to the seat on one end and a small bracket on the floor at the other. Free up one end if its there.
Then get out of car, lift fore-and-aft lever, and push the seat forward. It may take some effort if it gets bound up on the carpet. Once it gets far enough forward it will be clear of the brackets - then lift out!
Caution the tracks may be dirty/greasy - protect the carpet, etc if you care.
