Shredded timing belt

True Classic
My somewhat new timing belt (~4100 miles) delaminated last night while driving home. The outer sheath, opposite the cogged side, just peeled off like a banana. I can't read the make or model of it, and don't remember who I bought it from. Anyone else have a similar event? Now comes the fun part.

check you aux shaft pulley

some pulleys were made of plastic- they develop cracks and destroy the belt, really need to get a light in there as the cracks will be hard to see

Tensioner alignement

Make sure the tensioner is square to the tracking of the belt. It is possible to install it canted, not on the pin and still have the bolt through the centre of the bearing and tightened. This will put a twist on the belt which will also shred it in short order.

May be a bad belt...

If it was old, or stored or otherwise treated badly, it could have failed from fatigue.

NOS is not a term I'd buy into for a timing belt.

results

Yep, the tensioner bearing sends its regards. It likely wasn't a (aged NOS) bad belt.
