Smog/Desmog

I have a 1974 X, and the previous owner started desmogging it but has left the air pump on, and some of the vacuum system, it has header and smog ports plugged. I don't have to smog it, and from what I have read it is not a very effective system anyways. I would like to extract as much HP as I can out of the stock motor to keep up with So Cal Traffic and to just simplify the engine systems. Also is there a better aftermarket carb set up I should be looking for?
 
howd you come about you name. you can remove all the stuff. i did on my 74, the stock carb is not bad. there is always better. i installed two webers dcnf,s. it helped, but i wasnt happy. where in so cal are you.
 
fuel injection, still, incomplete. thats the 74. the 80 has factory fuel injection, also incomplete. my sons is almost your neighbor. he is in fontana, has an incomplete 74 with a turbo honda the puts out 320 horses, im told
