The 1st DCFiats SOHC drive. 7 ..er..6 X1/9s

toddr124

Hagerstown, MD
It was a tough day for X1/9s yesterday. We had 7 X1/9s show up for a drive on the back roads of MD and VA. The weather was poor (40 and light rain) and my car made it it to the start point and no further. Goodbye head gasket.

This did not stop the 6 X1/9s left from going on a 2 hour drive through the back roads and gravel roads. We also took a ferry across the Potomac River. http://data:image/png;base64,iVBORw0KGgoAAAANSUhEUgAAAMgAAACgCAYAAABJ/yOpAAAgAElEQVR4nIS7Z3Cb55m27Znv7/fjfTe7qVvjEtdN3C2

Okay my post says images, but they are not here?

When that happened to me Todd .........

I'd dragged and dropped my images directly into the text box.
Try loading each with its htm link to its server and bracket it thus
IMG) with your htm between the two bracketed entries.

Sorry for your woes, Todd...

... and its really a bummer when yur overheating and its COLD outside!

As for posting images... this site is sensitive to which browser you are using.

May I suggest FIREFOX if you are not currently using it. I found it works best for me overall... and the ImageShack Toolbar seems to work well also.

After you select BROWSE and select your foto, then click HOST IT. When your selection is uploaded, then click on the WIDGET CODE and copy it, then paste it into this text box... and Whaa-La!

<script src='http://img9.imageshack.us/shareable/?i=prancingmouse.png&p=tl' type='text/javascript'></script><noscript></noscript>

I then usually edit my posts for spelling and remove the "script" line that precedes and follows the foto.

Hope this helps.

Tony, has nothing to do with your computer's browser. When linking from Mobile Me, you have to figure out what the internet standard URL is for the pic you want to post. Have to do that from each pic and not from any of the grid/carousel or slideshow views.

Looks like it was fun despite your mechanical difficulties. I see quite a few nice looking X's. Are there any more pictures?

Still no luck with pictures

The pictures re not mine. They are from Walter and he posted them on a mobileme gallery.

Thanks for posting the pictures

There are more pictures, but I still can not get the linking to work. I will keep trying.:mallet:

Pic posting depends mostly upon what the hosting site does with url customization.

To post from Walter's Mobile Me gallery of the DC Fiats New Years Drive:

1. Go to the album at http://gallery.me.com/wforlini#100199&view=grid&bgcolor=black&sel=6.

2. Select a pic from the album and click to display in your browser.

3. Using Internet Explorer, just right click the picture itself to get a context menu and the click properties at the bottom of the menu to get a properties page.

4. In the middle of the properties page, you'll see an entry for Address (URL). Highlight the address and right click to copy. Now you have an internet standard URL to work with, and it's loaded into the Windows clipboard in the background, ready to insert.

5. Come back to your post-in-progress and click on the Insert Image icon (looks like a mountain and sun). It says "please enter the URL of your image." In Windows just hold CTRL and press V once to paste in the entire URL that you gathered in step 4 above. Presto, there's the URL of the pic with the XWeb-required IMG tags applied.

6. Finish your post and click preview, and you should see the pix in the preview. Then click Submit to actually post.

7. Piece of Cake:mallet::rolleyes::brow:

Wow Dan you know your stuff

I give up and I will never try to post pictures again!

Where is my tablet, hammer and chisel?:censored:

Hey Dan... thanks for posting...

... and I don't mean to be argumentative... but you use terms and options using I.E. that are not present with other browsers, like I have now with Firefox, I think...

Nothing important here... just working with what I have and what I've experienced before. Old Mac had me swapping browsers (Network Nav. to Internet Exp. and back again) years ago with the 1.0 version and I would be presented with different "dashboards", as it were. I just thought Todd's problem might be solved if he were to try a different browser.

Anyway... Its good to see you folks out and about even in this weather. Thanks again...

Mud Pies

The reason Todd faked a blown head gasket is because his route for this event was mostly unpaved roads so with the rain, mud, and left over salt from teh almost snow the week before our Xs looked like something from a rally special stage by the time we stopped for lunch. His car, of course, suffered none of this.

Smarter than I look?

Not a chance.

First off John choose the 1st unpaved part of the run. I had instructions for paved on the same sheet of paper. The 2nd segment was chosen by David who assured us all that the road was paved. He was wrong.

Plus I did the drive a week earlier including the MD unpaved road on Christmas eve in the X1/9. My car was already dirty before the drive.

A minor correction...

Todd's recollection is a bit off -- I blame his grief and despair from the unfortunate pre-drive failure of his head gasket.

I didn't "choose" the 2nd unpaved portion of our route; rather, Todd asked if anyone was familiar with that road and I mentioned that I had been on some portion of it in the past and that I THOUGHT (but was not certain) that it was paved.

Nonetheless, despite being unpaved it was a fun little road -- narrow, twisty and a bit hilly.

The whole drive was fun --- thanks mainly to Todd (and John Erskine) for setting it up and managing it.

Tony wrote, "and I don't mean to be argumentative...." Huh? I thought you were Italian! :guns::laugh::grin::laugh: ...next thing, you'll claim you can say a sentence with your hands tied behind your back.:)

A lot of the pic hosting sites like photobucket, mobile me, imageshack etc use URL customizations that don't work in links.

For example if you go to any of the pix in the aformentioned album http://gallery.me.com/wforlini#100199&view=grid&bgcolor=black&sel=6 , if you compare the URL in the link showing in the browser's address bar to the link showing in the picture's properties page, you'll see a big difference that trips up most if not all message boards.

Let's take the first pic in the album, where the cars are parked head-in against the shrubs. With just that pic displaying, this is what is in the browser address bar:

http://gallery.me.com/wforlini#100199/DSC_0059&bgcolor=black
But that's not an internet standard URL. If you pasted this into the forum, it would just show as a bad link.

If you right click the pic and look at the address listed, you'll see this:

http://gallery.me.com/wforlini/100199/DSC_0059/web.jpg?ver=12940253510001

That's an internet standard URL which the forum will happily accept.

The difference in browsers would come into play when trying to find the properties of the picture in order to ascertain what the internet standard URL is for the picture. In IE you right click the picture to see the properties. Since I don't use FireFox, I don't know how you would gather that info in FF, but regardless of how you gather it, the info itself (the internet standard URL) should be the same as IE.

I'll be emailing you the pop quiz! :p

Ummph, ummph... ah... ummph...

(Someone tied my hands...)

Like YOU said.... simple, ain't it!

Way back when... The Network Navigator browser I used back in '03 with Windows 98 didn't even show me half the options available that Internet Explorer gave me once I switched. I dunno if that's still true today with this 2.0 version... but I thought I would over it up as a possible solution or problem.

And as you said... depending on whether you right or left click it'll give you a non-standard URL.

Anyway... good chatting with ya... you've gone WAAAAYYY beyond my skill level now!

Later...

Thankfully I am computer inept

I'll be emailing you the pop quiz! :p

I do use Firefox and right clicking does not give me the URL.

The good news is I do not take pictures. These are Walter pictures as I said earlier. Walter is a computer person and DCFiats webmaster. I will never try to post pictures again. I promise.:dunce:
