[FONT=Trebuchet MS, Verdana, Tahoma, Arial]<!-- google_ad_section_start -->Since it seems a bit of a stretch to make you dig through 10 tons of archived material just for the simple bit you are seeking, you simply can remove the timing belt by putting the car in 3rd or 4th gear with the e-brake off, roll it forward to turn the engine til the timing marks line up on crank & cam, then (important) stop the car (apply brake or chock tires etc so engine can't be turned further), make a mark with a grease pencil or something on the aux shaft pulley & the surface of the engine block nearby, so you will have an easy way to realign the distributor when the new belt goes on.
Then it is just a matter of slacking the tensioner & sliding the belt off. Or you can just cut it off. In ANY case just be darn sure you're ready before you remove it completely (ie: might be best to break bolts loose in advance etc) because once it is off you DEFINITELY do not want to move the crank or cam around too much independently of one another
Someone pls correct me if I missed anything. By the way, it is rather common here to hear about how to install a timing belt, but to hear someone ask how to remove it is actually kind of unusual
Most folks get them removed by accident!

Lots of people seem to ask the same question... I've done the job three times and almost ALWAYS have to throw a temper tantrum (or 13mm spanner) when the bloody thing doesn't start unless I turn the distributor!
Perhaps this would be better called "Engine timing 101" for the likes of me!
