Carl posted it in another thread.
Only a small reference to the X.

That was a great episode.

The Brit car show "Wheeler Dealers" is shown on Discovery HD Theater. They pick up a "modern classic," do some refreshing, and then sell the car.

The Toyota MR2 episode reportedly has some X1/9 content in it. To be shown on Aug. 25 and 26, check your local listings.

That was a lot of work for $600BP.

Even with the conversion factor to USD and I bet they didn't count any of the "extra stuff" like waxes, buffing compounds, filler, primer, paint, etc and don't forget the up front money in all the right tools for the job (lift, buffing wheel, etc) Although, buffing the paint themselves saved over and above what their profit was. Not that I'm lazy, but after that much work, I would have wanted to keep it for at least a year to enjoy the fruits of my labor.

It's uh....different.

You should see the 308 GT4 episode. Pretty bad GT4 that, if you priced it out, would have cost about 6 grand in mechanical alone to get right, which they got for cost of parts.

The key to this is that the mechanic/body guy "contributes" from 4-10 thousand in work on every project, which more than evens the score and subsequently allows the 'pale of profit', and that factor alone makes the projects much more expensive to the average consumer. Add to that this DJ/raconteur/salesman with super-slick auto schlock, and it's a hit. These guys make it look easy. Too easy. I guess that's the appeal of the show. But if you think about it, would you really buy a car from the dude on the show? He comes across as a total con man, at least to me. There are car salesman in the South that can out-talk this guy 10-to-1, but that cool British brogue is part of the appeal.

It would be like taking JJ sales expertise with cars and Mad Matt's shop and labor (both totally free) and making a show. Hey....that's not such a bad idea! Call it "Mad Matt's Motoring Show"....HA! I'll bring the camera and crew.

The sales guy Mike and the mechanic Edd did have a companion show last year that ran right after one half-hour Wheeler Dealer episode.

In the companion show, Mike would host a guest buyer(s) at his used car dealership and provide 3-4 candidate used cars that fit the budget and tastes of what the guest buyer(s) was looking for. As they went on their test drives and discussed the candidates, Mike would always provide a point/counterpoint revealing the known issues with each of the used cars.

Meanwhile Edd would do a segment from the repair shop part of the dealership on fixing up an older car for resale.
