greetings all,
Been a while since my last post, but I thouight you might be interested the Abarth that's up for Auction on BAT. Here's the link:

https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1959-abarth-750-zagato/

I've owned this car for 60 years. It breaks my heart to send it to a new caretaker, but I've lost my eyesight and can no longer drive. This car begs to be driven. Please pass the auction link to anyone who might be interested. As of today, the auction has a little over 2 days left to go.
Molto Grazie

I can’t believe the bid did not go higher. My wife asked what I thought it would be bid to, I told her easy 6 figures. I was very surprised the bid did not go higher. Great car, I wish I had room for it.

As much as I agree with the impassioned arguments about how it's actually a better car modified as it is and it's in the spirit of Carlo, the 'collector' car market doesn't hold such modifications as valuable as the original. I'm not too surprised of it not hitting 6-figures.

As proof of SuperTopo's point of view I submit the following: Around 2000 I decided to sell my Doble Bubble which was in Pebble Beach condition.
IT WAS INSPECTED AND APPROVED BY LES BURD, A PEBBLE BEACH JUDGE. That said I was beat out for the 750GT position (only one each type accepted) by I think Augie Pabst from Studio City. Because I had (stretching it a little) a period correct race engine Norb McNamara (another Pebble Beach Judge, owner of the last Abarth factory sports racer) tried to get me in as a special period car. Still not enough pull. Here are the specs from that time: Body and paint by Kevin Kay restorations one of the foremost Aston Martin DB-6 specialist in the world. I saw SIX (yes, 6) in his shop at one time. Interior had Record Monza seats with English Conley leather covering as well as all other panels. Rest of interior to complement. Exterior body was as Zagato made it before they hung all the do-dad's all over it. If you've seen a stock one you know they thought it needed a fake grill in the nose, what were called "whiskers" and more badges than a Russian General. And aluminum "bumpers" that were held on with sheet metal screws. I left all those off for a clean "shaved" look. There were of course 13" alloy rims with 4-wheel disc brakes, Koni shocks, hidden oil cooler under nose, Abarth cross flow radiator between rear wheels, and then the engine compartment. An AutoBianchi A-112 bored to 1070cc, PBS 8-port head with twin 40mm DCOE's, I can't remember the cam specs but it had carbon fiber pushrods from Greg Schmidt. This was tied to an alloy flywheel and a 600D transaxle that I cast an extension for and added a 5th gear. Bottom line is IT SOLD TO SYMBOLIC MOTOR CARS in La Jolla AFTER I PULLED EVERY SINGLE ITEM OFF IT AND WENT BACK TO A STOCK CONFIGURATION. In 2000 it sold that way for $15,000. I sold all the upgrades for about another $15,000 once they were off the car. Rick Cross had a VARA 750GT for several years that I did pit crew for. He sold his for the exact same figure in the same year.
Sorry about the inverted pics but this is the result of a half hour trying as is....
