Jet fuel for the X....?
Hi folks, been away from the forum for a while during my holidays at home.

I'm soon returning to Kandahar, and have started "tinkering" before leaving.

I have this "sensor" on my engine, with nothing connected to it. It appears to be set up for two vacuum lines, but none are nearby.

Does anyone know what this sensor is for? It is located just up from the #3 spark plug, below the throttle cable bracket.

Thanks in advance,

It's a thermoswitch for a vacuum line

It closes off the vacuum line until the motor is warm. Early 1300 cars used that vacuum line to retard the timing at idle after the motor had warmed up; the thermoswitch disabled the retard when cold.. Depending on what year your car is, it may serve some other purpose, but whatever it does, it's something vacuum-operated that you don't want on a cold engine.

Thanks...

This being a 78, I'm not sure if the engine is original to it.

Seeing as this is not connected, and the car starts just fine when cold.....I suspect it was just left disconnected.

I'll have to do some testing when I get to the engine compartment.

Thanks a bunch:sun:
